The Philadelphia Art Alliance, on Rittenhouse Square,
is a nonprofit arts organization founded in 1915. It's still there today, and the University of the Arts manages it now. During 2019, the venerable building will be refurbished.
I handled public relations and booked about 40 programs a year, and produced a bimonthly Bulletin.
I made the "RAPE" exhibition logo by painting it on the cement wall behind my mother's house on Naudain Street in Philadelphia. It was a violent composition in red and black. The neighbors never complained, although I didn't repaint the wall for weeks. ("RAPE" was on view from Nov. 14, 1987, through Jan. 8, 1988. It came to the Art Alliance through the Touring Exhibitions Program of Opportunities for the Arts, Columbus, Ohio.)

During my tenure at the Art Alliance,
four of our shows made The New York Times. Lucky me!
My next job was for a theater, The Fulton Opera House.
